I know, I know. This movie. But honestly, if you haven't experienced this amazing movie I suggest you do so. I recently went to see it in IMAX 3D and thought it was put together very well. The movie was visually pleasing, had a good (but slightly predictable) story, and I personally didn't think it was too long. I find myself constantly asking people if they have seen the film, and greatly encourage those who haven't to go see it! Some people have just written it off as just a "movie about blue people". But it is so much more than that. I'm not sure if this movie would be given justice in a normal movie theater so I must encourage you to see it in IMAX 3D. Plus the $6 price tag on Tuesdays is always good for a college student!

I myself have not seen this movie yet, but due to such diverse opinions from my friends I will probably be seeing it in the near future; hopefully by the end of this week...Anyway, the things I have heard about this movie are very different from what I initially thought the movie would be like. I figured it would be just another movie where a main character is chosen to discreetly switch sides to help gain more information & control for their original side/team etc...Kind of like faceoff except Nick Cage goes back to being the good guy at the end and he didn’t really have a choice of being trapped behind John Travolta’s face. Another movie I thought its plot or theme would relate to is Donnie Basco. Since I only just saw Donnie Brasco I could be wrong, but it seemed like Johnny Depp’s character, [a cop who goes undercover with the mob to help the police take them down] becomes so involved with his newly joined crew that he begins loosing focus on his goal to help the police and instead he takes on a new mafia persona. On a website I compared both plots of Avatar and Donnie Brasco. Donnie Brasco’s plot is described as“An FBI undercover agent infiltrates the mob and finds himself identifying more with the mafia life to the expense of his regular one.” Avatars plot is similar, “A paraplegic marine dispatched to the moon Pandora on a unique mission becomes torn between following his orders and protecting the world he feels is his home.” I hope after seeing Avatar I will be able to see if the plots are truly unique or if the it’s just another movie in which someone else’s life seems better than your own..ya’ know what I mean?
ReplyDeleteRecently, I've been told to go see this movie buy one of my friends... He says the same as you, it's just amazing. And honestly, I do want to go see it, I've been trying to see movies that need to be seen in the theatres, but its alot of money and a far drive, but I think I'm still trying to go see it.
ReplyDeleteAvatar is a film I also strongly recommend people to go see. I loved it in IMAX 3-D. If you can see it in this format do so. But if not, it is still worth seeing in any theater that you can go to. The visuals really are gorgeous, the 3-D I can best describe as creating a foreground, middle and background. It is not the cheesy 3-D seen in old slashers like Friday the 13th 3-D. Thats enough about the visuals though.
ReplyDeleteThe 3-D is the icing to make a great film even better. There is still plenty to enjoy, James Cameron created a new world that although is incredibly alien feels tangible and is focused on struggles that mirror our own history. I understand if this movie is not someones cup of tea.
However, for those that rather just make fun of it then give it a chance, I say it is easier to make fun of and disregard a creative work, than to keep an open mind and see how you really feel about it after you have experienced it.
